Echoes of North Florida’s rural past whisper throughout this 55-acre park dedicated to preserving the region’s historical roots in the citrus industry.
Five miles south of the Julington Creek bridge on William Bartram Scenic and Historic Highway (State Road 13), Alpine Groves Park is the perfect place to escape the congested Jacksonville city streets.
Moss-draped oak and magnolia trees shade a large picnic area, perfect for Sunday morning brunch or a Fourth of July gathering, and nature lovers will love the paved hiking/biking trail that winds through the park.
Historic structures on the property include a two-story farmhouse and a garage/shed that still holds machinery used to process the oranges and lemons grown on this uniquely Southern homestead in the early 1900s.
Situated on a bluff overlooking the St. Johns River, Alpine Groves is a great spot to catch a magnificent sunset. A canoe slip provides river access to those who enjoy getting up close and personal with freshwater inhabitants.
I drive out to this park when I want to hear the silence. It’s a beautiful place to just be.
Bonus for the ladies—the restrooms are surprisingly clean.
